Designing your
business so it
unleashes the
potential of its' people
business so it
unleashes the
potential of its' people
Typically when we create and build a new business we focus on attracting talent and resourcing our growing and developing business.
How often do we put strategic priority on the unleashing the potential of the people at
the centre of the business and understand how to fully release their energy, vision and capacities?
How often do we put strategic priority on the unleashing the potential of the people at
the centre of the business and understand how to fully release their energy, vision and capacities?
5 Core Elements :
Drawing the New Landscape
This needs to be an innovative and visionary process that can run over a number of meetings and its purpose is to collectively design:
- Vision for the business
- The shared ‘wants’ ie. desired climate and culture
- Shared fundamental principles
- New ways of working for the business and its eco-system
The Bigger Game
We all join a business with individual passions and a desire to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We want to get this expressed through our engagement with the business.
This process is designed to understand :
- What is the bigger game each of us want to play? What do we want to be part of creating, what do we stand for and what are we passionate about?
- What is the bigger game for this business? What is the contribution that it can bring to the
world?
- The diversity in the group
- The collective potential of everyone in the group
- How can this be fulfilled through this business?
Creating a Vibrant and Connected work space
This core piece addresses how the group move to common experience and connection. It specifically addresses:
- How does everyone stay engaged and included?
- How do we move from ‘I’ to a big ‘We’?
- What are the opportunities that have never beenspoken?
- Creating lasting connection
Designing Working Practices
This element enables everyone to co-design the working practices that will bring this vision alive. This allows for innovative thinking on how we can work in new ways. It will also focus on identifying and letting go of any conditioning that doesn’t serve what is wanted in the business.
Working practices include:
- How we engage with each other?
- What are the processes that enable us?
- Tools that enable us to evolve and change easily as required
- Creation of fluid roles that enable full expression and contribution
New Capacities
This element focuses on developing the new capacities that are needed for the business we want to create. This is a four step process:
- Identify core capacities
- Understand who in thebusiness naturally demonstrate these already
- Develop new thinking and perspective to enable others to expand their capacities
- Develop ongoing eco-system to ensure that new practices are sustainable and we don’t slip back to drawing on old paradigm ways of working
Evolving the business
As the business develops new people will join, there will be expansion and new avenues to pursue. There is a need for on going strategic focus that ensures all of the work from the initial design can be evolved and transformed as required.
This includes how we bring in new people. Traditional onboarding for new people doesn’t always fully enable them to feel a part of the business in a way that is possible. This element is really important to ensure that new people joining the business become part of the bigger game quickly and can bring their piece of the jigsaw in the most impactful way.
As the business expands all of the processes above can be applied in an ongoing dynamic process to ensure that it is able to evolve as new potential and opportunities emerge.
